Pour a whisky in the glass and look. See the color - is it almost clear, or golden, or brown? Is there some other color apparent? Pan the glass - is the liquid thin or oily? Smell - what is the first thought? Try to describe the two, three main aromas you discover. Is there something lingering behind?
Take a sip. Will you find in the palate the same flavors you just
smelled? When you swallow, how long stays the palate? Add some water
to the glass - does the palate change? New flavors?
The most important sensual expression will be delivered through your nose: in contrast to the hundreds or thousands of flavors, your nose can distinguish, your tongue only knows four of them: salty, sweet, sour and bitter. So depend on your nose!
