The only island, which is classified as a region on its own, is Islay.
A small island with 8 distilleries - unfortunately not all are working
anymore - giving their face to this savage, but beautiful place.
Although not every distillery uses heavy peated malt here (Caol Ila is said to start even with unpeated barley as part of their production cycle), the classical Islay combines peat, smoke and the character of the sea to a powerful drink, which sometimes overcharges the palate of the connaisseur. Donīt give up - give it a try from time to time.
